With a strong motivation and keen interest in restoring functionality of the native hip joint,
Mr Patrick Carton MD, FRCS (Tr & Orth) FFSEM performed his first surgical hip preservation
procedure in 2004. He was appointed Clinical Director of Trauma and Orthopaedics for the
Southern Health Trust in 2006, and established the Trauma and Orthopaedic Centre in
Craigavon Hospital, NI.
In 2008 he moved to Waterford, and for the last sixteen years his practice has being primarily
based at UPMC Whitfield Hospital, in Waterford. On the 11th October 2024, the Hip
Preservation Institute expanded its patient services to the Cork and wider area, and is now
also based at the Affidea Centre located at the Elysian Building, Cork
